Cancellation of Removal Mental Health Evaluations
Assessment of mental health effects in the circumstances your attorney asks to have evaluated.
Identifying the Clinical Request
Understanding Whose Experience Is Being Assessed
An attorney may ask for mental health documentation for a cancellation of removal matter, often involving family members. Before scheduling, ask who needs to be evaluated and which circumstances the attorney wants addressed. A clinical assessment examines mental health effects; it does not select a legal approach or decide whether the immigration request can proceed under a particular rule.
Family Circumstances
Describing Daily Life in Concrete Terms
When the requested assessment involves a family member, relevant information may include relationships, responsibilities, and the emotional effects of the circumstances identified. Describe daily life as it is rather than trying to write a legal argument. Your attorney can clarify which situation needs attention, while the clinical conversation considers the mental health information connected with that situation.
- Current caregiving responsibilities
- Emotional effects within the family
- Changes in daily functioning
- Support the person depends on
Clarifying the Focus
Questions to Resolve Before the Appointment
If several family members are involved, do not assume they all need the same assessment or should attend together. Ask your attorney to identify the requested person and focus. Then discuss attendance questions with the practice. A clear explanation of the request helps you prepare without guessing which personal details to gather or deciding on clinical conclusions in advance.
Evaluations
Our Clinical Immigration Evaluations
Our immigration evaluations are conducted by a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience in trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Evaluations are available in English or Spanish, so you can discuss these personal experiences in either language.

Arrangements for the Person Being Evaluated
The practice meets at 191 Sand Creek Road, Suite 230, Brentwood, CA 94513. Video assessments are available while the person being evaluated is in California. The usual length for most immigration evaluations is 2 to 3 hours. Discuss language and format beforehand, particularly if another family member is helping with arrangements. The appointment needs a setting where private clinical information can be discussed.
Preparing Relevant Materials
Identification and Requested Records
Visit the preparation page for practical information about photo ID, attorney contact details, and requested documents. Ask the attorney which materials relate to the circumstances being evaluated instead of sending all family records. Questions about handling sensitive information can be raised with the practice before sharing anything. Do not attach clinical history or private family accounts to an initial email.
Clinical Information Only
Legal Questions Stay with the Attorney
We do not provide legal representation or legal advice. Your immigration attorney determines legal eligibility. The evaluator's role is distinct from decisions about cancellation of removal. Ask your attorney about the legal purpose of the requested documentation and the family circumstances they identify. Clinical information does not establish an immigration result, and the practice cannot advise you about the legal requirements or how they apply to your request.
Discussing the Appointment
Contact with a Clear Evaluation Type
When calling (925) 331-0457 or emailing info@heartnmindcounseling.com, say that the request concerns a cancellation of removal mental health evaluation. Mention the preferred language and ask about scheduling. Keep the message general rather than describing a relative's mental health in email. You can ask what needs clarification with your attorney before settling the appointment details and who will be attending.
Common Questions
Is the Appointment Always for the Person Facing Removal?
The person being evaluated depends on the attorney’s request. Ask the attorney to identify whose mental health needs assessment.
Can a Relative Help Arrange the Appointment?
Ask the practice about arrangements while keeping the person’s clinical details out of email.
Does a Clinical Evaluation Establish Legal Eligibility?
It does not. Eligibility questions are for the immigration attorney responsible for the matter.
