Couples in Mid-Life

Sex Therapy

Thoughtful talk therapy about closeness, communication, trust, and intimacy in mid-life.

For Couples in Mid-Life

When Closeness Is Difficult to Discuss

Questions about intimacy can be hard to put into words, especially with a partner whose feelings you do not want to hurt. You may notice distance, a change in affection, or conversations that end before either of you has said what matters.

Sex therapy at Heart'N Mind Counseling is talk therapy for couples in mid-life. The focus is closeness, communication, trust, and emotional and physical connection.

Subjects You Can Bring

Naming What Has Changed

Partners may describe the same relationship differently. One person may miss affection while the other wants more conversation. You can discuss that difference without needing to agree on an explanation before you come in.

  • How each partner expresses closeness
  • Concerns about emotional distance
  • Conversations about intimacy that feel uncomfortable
  • Trust and its place in the relationship
  • Changes in connection during mid-life

A Conversational Service

What Talk-Based Care Means

Sex therapy takes place through conversation. There is no sexual contact or sexual activity in sessions. You and your partner can discuss experiences, feelings, and questions about your relationship.

If the name of this service leaves you uncertain about what happens, ask before scheduling. You can bring questions about the format, the subjects discussed, and how a therapist helps partners talk about an uncomfortable concern.

The First Appointment

Finding a Place to Start Together

A first session can begin with each partner describing what prompted the appointment. You might explain a recent conversation, something that has changed over time, or a subject you have struggled to bring up.

You can ask how personal information and privacy are handled in couples work. Rather than assuming you both have the same questions, make room for each person to ask what they want to understand.

Place and Format

Meeting in Brentwood or by Video

Our practice offers in-person appointments in Brentwood and video appointments in California. Both partners must be located in California during a session. Ask about the format that fits your circumstances when you contact us.

For a video appointment, consider a private location where conversation will not be overheard. Questions about arranging a joint session can be raised before you schedule.

Cost Questions

Discuss Fees Before an Appointment

Session fees are shared during your free consultation. Ask specifically about sex therapy with your therapist so the conversation addresses the service you are considering.

The practice accepts major credit cards, FSA cards, and HSA cards and is not in network with insurance. You can ask about superbills for PPO, HSA or flexible benefit plans. Reimbursement depends on the plan and is not promised.
