Family Conflict
For the same argument that keeps returning, or the silence that follows it.
A Familiar Pattern
When the Same Argument Keeps Returning
Some families notice one disagreement repeats in different forms, whether about chores, screen time, curfew, or how a teen spends their time. Other families describe the opposite: conversations that used to happen regularly have faded into silence.
Both patterns can leave a family feeling stuck, unsure whether to bring something up again or let it go quietly. Family sessions give everyone involved a place to talk about what has been happening between them, with someone outside the household helping guide the conversation.
Starting Together
A First Session as a Family
In an opening session, each person who attends can describe the conflict or the silence from their own point of view. Your therapist will ask questions to understand how different family members experience the same situation differently.
You can discuss who should attend when you first reach out. Some families want a parent and teen together from the start; others begin smaller.
Our Clinical Care
A Family Systems Approach
A therapist on our team, holds California License #120707 as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Their approaches include family systems, which looks at how each person in a household affects and responds to the others rather than treating one person as the source of the conflict.
Your therapist offers sessions in English and Spanish and can explain how a family systems approach might apply to the repeated argument or silence your family is experiencing.
Our Teen and Parent Care
Working with Parents and Teens
A therapist on our team is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #160969. Registered associate. Provides services under the clinical supervision of a licensed clinician.
Your therapist works with parents on communication and with teens directly, which can be useful when a family wants support talking through a pattern that involves a specific parent-teen relationship. This clinician provides sessions in English and Spanish.
What Families Can Bring Up
Common Threads in Family Sessions
Sessions make room for the different ways conflict and distance can show up at home.
- An argument that keeps returning in a different form
- Silence or withdrawal that has replaced regular conversation
- Disagreements about rules, responsibilities, or expectations
- Tension that has built up around a recent family change
- Wanting the whole family to feel heard, not just one person
What This Service Does Not Include
Where Our Scope of Care Ends
Our family therapy does not include court-ordered family reunification. If that is the service you need, ask for a provider whose work addresses it. We can discuss the scope of our care before you arrange a family appointment.
For a family wanting to talk through repeated conflict or distance at home, the consultation is a place to describe what has been happening and ask whether our services fit.
