Therapy for Student Athletes

A conversation about school, sport, and who you are beyond both.

For Student Athletes

Balancing School, Sport, and Everything Else

Therapy for student athletes is a space to talk about the pressure of managing school and sport at the same time. You can describe a demanding practice schedule, grades that feel hard to keep up, or the feeling of being pulled in different directions.

A first session can start with a typical week, including practices, games, classes, and whatever else is competing for your time and attention.

Common Pressures

What Student Athletes Often Bring In

Sessions can cover a range of concerns that come with being a student and an athlete at the same time.

  • Pressure from school and sport happening together
  • Coping with an injury and the changes it brings
  • Questions about identity beyond being an athlete
  • Stress around playing time, coaches, or teammates
  • Feeling like there is no time to rest

A Space Without Pressure

A Conversation, Not a Performance Review

The conversation centers on your emotional health rather than scores or playing time. You might bring in pressure from a coach, worry about returning after an injury, or exhaustion from keeping up with both schoolwork and training.

You can talk about how a loss affected you, how an injury has changed your routine, or how you feel about yourself when sport is not going the way you hoped.

Identity Beyond Sport

Who You Are Off the Field

Many student athletes describe feeling like their identity is tied closely to their sport. Sessions can make room to talk about who you are outside of games and practices, including school, friendships, and interests that exist apart from athletics.

This can be especially useful during an injury, a season that ends earlier than expected, or a transition such as graduating or stepping away from a sport.
