Support for Parents

Parenting Support

A place to talk through the harder parts of raising a teenager.

For Parents

Support for the Work of Raising Teens

Parenting support is a space for parents to talk about what is happening at home, particularly with teens. You can describe a recent disagreement, a pattern of conflict, or a change in your teen's mood or behavior that has you concerned.

The first appointment can begin with the moment that prompted your call. Describe the disagreement, the worry, or the change in your own patience that you want to understand. Your concerns as a parent belong in that conversation too.

What Parents Bring In

Common Topics for Parenting Sessions

Sessions can cover a range of concerns related to communication and daily life with a teen at home.

  • Breakdowns in communication with a teen
  • Conflict that repeats around the same topics
  • Worry about a teen's mood, friendships, or school
  • Feeling unsure how to respond to pushback at home
  • Balancing structure with a teen's need for independence

Building Communication

Working on How You and Your Teen Talk

Sessions can focus on communication, including how a conversation tends to start, what tends to shut it down, and what has worked even briefly in the past. You can describe a specific exchange and talk through what you might try differently.

This is not about following a script. Your situation and your teen are specific, and sessions are shaped around what is actually happening in your household.

Care with Your Therapist

Our Work with Parents and Teens

A therapist on our team is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #160969. Registered associate. Provides services under the clinical supervision of a licensed clinician.

Your therapist works with parents to strengthen communication with their teens and offers sessions in English and Spanish. This clinician can also meet with your teen directly if that becomes part of the conversation.

Room for You Too

Making Space for Your Own Self Care

Parenting support can also include a conversation about your own self care, since the stress of parenting a teen does not stay separate from the rest of your life. You can talk about your own mood, energy, or patience alongside what is happening with your teen.

If it feels useful, family therapy is also available as an option when more than one family member wants to be part of the conversation together.

Office or Video

Meeting in Brentwood or by Video

Come to 191 Sand Creek Road, Suite 230, Brentwood, CA 94513, or meet by video while located in California. Think about a time and place where you can speak without your teen overhearing. The consultation can cover practical questions about who attends.

Planning for Care

Fees for Parenting Support

Session fees are shared during your free consultation. We can discuss the cost of parenting support separately from questions about family sessions. For these appointments, you can pay with major credit cards, FSA cards, or HSA cards. A limited number of reduced-fee spaces are available monthly.
