U Visa Mental Health Evaluations
Clinical assessment of mental health effects related to the experiences your attorney identifies.
The Requested Documentation
Mental Health Information for a U Visa Matter
A U visa mental health evaluation concerns experiences relevant to a request your attorney identifies. The purpose is to assess their effects on mental health, rather than decide what immigration category applies. If you are unsure why an evaluation has been requested, ask your attorney to explain its intended focus before arranging the clinical appointment with our practice.
Noticing the Effects
Ordinary Changes Worth Describing
Mental health effects can be easier to explain through everyday examples than through a general label. You might describe what happens when you try to sleep, concentrate, or spend time with people. The evaluation considers relevant experiences alongside the effects you report. Speak in your own words rather than trying to make the account sound like a clinical document.
- Sleep changes you have noticed
- Difficulty focusing on daily responsibilities
- Feelings connected with relevant reminders
- Changes in how you relate to others
A Sensitive Discussion
Raising Questions About What to Share
You may have concerns about discussing an experience with someone new. Ask your therapist how the clinical conversation works and tell the clinician if a question needs explanation. You can ask about taking a pause when a topic is difficult. Having questions or uncertainty does not mean you have failed to prepare; those concerns can be brought into the appointment.
Evaluations
Our Clinical Immigration Evaluations
Our immigration evaluations are conducted by a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience in trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Evaluations are available in English or Spanish, so you can discuss these personal experiences in either language.
Meet our teamTime and Location
Planning for an Uninterrupted Meeting
Most immigration evaluations require 2 to 3 hours. In-person meetings are at 191 Sand Creek Road, Suite 230, Brentwood, CA 94513. If you prefer video, you must be located in California during the evaluation. Consider whether your chosen location allows enough privacy and uninterrupted time for a conversation that may involve sensitive information about the experiences being assessed.
Gathering the Requested Items
Preparation with Your Attorney
Our preparation page describes identification, attorney contact information, and requested documents. Confirm the U visa evaluation type with your attorney and ask what they want the clinician to address. You can bring questions about documentation and sharing information. Do not assume that every personal record is needed, and do not put sensitive clinical records into an ordinary email inquiry.
Two Different Roles
The Clinical Assessment and the Legal Matter
We do not provide legal representation or legal advice. Your immigration attorney determines legal eligibility. A mental health assessment is not a legal finding or a promise about the request. Your attorney handles legal requirements and explains how clinical information relates to the matter. Refer questions about eligibility or other legal documentation to that attorney rather than expecting the evaluator to settle them during your appointment.
Before Booking
A General U Visa Evaluation Inquiry
For appointment questions, phone (925) 331-0457 or email info@heartnmindcounseling.com. State that you are asking about a U visa clinical evaluation and note your preferred language. Clinical descriptions belong outside your email message. Ask about scheduling, the meeting format, and any preparation questions you still have so you can discuss the appointment arrangements before committing to a time.
