What Is an Immigration Mental Health Evaluation?

An immigration mental health evaluation is a professional assessment that looks at a person’s experiences, emotional well-being, and how those experiences may have affected their daily life. The evaluation includes a conversation about personal history, mental health, and current concerns, with the information summarized in a written report.

VAWA Mental Health Evaluation

A VAWA mental health evaluation assesses the emotional and psychological effects of reported experiences of abuse within a qualifying relationship. The evaluation includes a clinical interview and documents relevant mental health symptoms, functioning, and history.

Asylum Mental Health Evaluation

An asylum mental health evaluation assesses the emotional and psychological impact of reported experiences of persecution, violence, or trauma. The evaluation documents how these experiences may have affected an individual's mental health and daily functioning.

Extreme Hardship Mental Health Evaluation

An extreme hardship mental health evaluation assesses the potential emotional and psychological impact of separation or relocation on an individual or qualifying family member. The evaluation documents relevant mental health factors and the reported effects of these circumstances.

U Visa Mental Health Evaluation

A U Visa mental health evaluation assesses the emotional and psychological effects associated with reported experiences as a victim of a qualifying crime. The evaluation documents relevant symptoms, emotional responses, and impacts on daily functioning.

T Visa Mental Health Evaluation

A T Visa mental health evaluation assesses the psychological effects associated with reported experiences of human trafficking. The evaluation focuses on trauma-related symptoms, emotional functioning, and the individual's reported experiences.

Cancellation of Removal Mental Health Evaluation

A cancellation of removal mental health evaluation assesses the emotional and psychological impact that potential separation or relocation may have on an individual or qualifying family members. The evaluation documents relevant mental health history, symptoms, and reported effects on functioning.

"You do not need to know exactly which evaluation you need. If you are working with an immigration attorney, they will let you know which type of evaluation is appropriate for your case."

Types of Immigration Mental Health Evaluations

Your immigration attorney will determine whether an evaluation is appropriate for your situation and the type of evaluation that may be needed. We're happy to answer questions about the evaluation process and help you schedule the appropriate appointment.

Meet Your Evaluator

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California with more than 10 years of experience supporting individuals and families. I provide services in both English and Spanish and have extensive experience working with immigrant communities, including individuals and families from Latin America.

In addition to therapy, I conduct mental health evaluations for immigration-related matters. I have completed training in immigration evaluations and trauma-informed care, which allows me to approach each evaluation with an understanding of how difficult life experiences can impact emotional well-being.

I understand that sharing personal experiences can be difficult. My goal is to provide a respectful and supportive evaluation process where individuals feel comfortable, heard, and understood.
